Saffron Vale

@saffronvale · natural dye studio

Slow colour from petals, roots and bark. I dye small batches of yarn and cloth, and teach anyone curious to grow their own palette.

About the studio

Saffron Vale began as a kitchen-sink experiment with onion skins and turned into a small studio built around plant colour.

Every dye bath is mixed by hand, and every batch is a little different. That's the point.

Where each link leads

Autumn Dye Garden Workshop

We harvest from the dye garden, build three baths and leave with a sampler of wool and linen in warm autumn tones. Aprons, mordants and tea are provided.

Workshop calendar

Classes follow the growing year: indigo in summer, fallen leaves in autumn and roots in winter. Groups stay small so everyone gets hands in the pot.

Private dye sessions

A relaxed session shaped around your project, whether that's a wedding shawl, a quilt or simply learning the basics at your own pace.

Beginner's dye guide

A gentle walkthrough of avocado stones, onion skins and black tea. It covers safe mordanting and how to keep notes you'll actually reuse.

Seasonal colour journal

Studio notebooks, shared openly: bath ratios, swatch cards and the batches that went wonderfully wrong.

Small-batch yarn drop

A short run of hand-dyed skeins in each season's palette. Each colourway is named for the plant that made it and never repeats exactly.

Studio letters

An occasional letter with what's blooming, what's simmering and when the next workshops and yarn drops open. It comes with no noise.
